Designed by Danilo Olim, Bookshelf #17 is a unique and versatile piece that combines functionality with a sleek and minimalistic design. Inspired by the need for optimized space, this bookshelf offers an independent organization system, allowing users to open one, two, or all shelves according to their needs.
The bookshelf is constructed using three plates coupled at the end. The first plate, measuring 20mm, is cut by laser and serves as the base. The second plate, 35mm thick, allows the shelves to rotate and provides support when open. The third plate, 5mm thick, closes the bookshelf at the rear. The hardware used is 35mm deep, ensuring stability and durability.
One of the standout features of Bookshelf #17 is its adaptability. It can be finished in various materials, including melamine boards, different wood finishes, high-pressure laminate with different tones, or lacquer. The bookshelf is 60mm thick and can be customized to the desired length and height, making it suitable for any space.
When closed, Bookshelf #17 seamlessly merges with the wall, creating a clean and uncluttered look. It can be easily hung on the wall, similar to a painting, thanks to the holes in the rear and the four vertices. This innovative design allows users to maximize their space without sacrificing style.
Bookshelf #17 is not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional. The shelves, measuring 300mm by 300mm and 20mm thick, open with a simple click on the magnetic bracket. They close when raised in a vertical position and on an axis rotation. Despite their slim design, the shelves are incredibly robust and capable of holding a shelf full of books.
This project took approximately one and a half years to be developed, with both the start and finishing stages taking place in Lisbon. The design team faced the challenge of creating a bookshelf that could be customized in various sizes without limitations in dimensions. The result is a versatile and adaptable piece that can be tailored to suit any space.
Bookshelf #17 has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2014. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate exceptional expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. Bookshelf #17, with its strong technical characteristics and remarkable level of excellence, truly deserves this accolade.
Bookshelf #17 by Danilo Olim is a testament to the power of design in creating functional and visually appealing solutions for optimized living spaces. Its sleek and minimalistic design, combined with its adaptability and robustness, make it a must-have piece for those seeking both style and functionality in their homes.
